    42; FEV1 vs. FOIS,

<.01). FVC and FEV1 values tend to be lower in patients with dysphagia in the context of NMD.

A positive correlation between pulmonary function and swallowing outcomes was observed in patients with NMD. Despite respiratory and swallowing impairment being widely present in the population with NMD, they require different treatments according to the disease’s pathophysiology. Future studies should be conducted to explore the disease-specific relationship between pulmonary function and swallowing in patients with NMD.

RO6870810 (RO) is a novel, small-molecule BET inhibitor. We conducted a study in 32 patients with relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia and hypomethylating agent-refractory myelodysplastic syndrome (NCT02308761). Pharmacodynamic assessments showed decreases in CD11b in peripheral blood mononuclear cells at RO concentrations above 120 ng/mL. Treatment emergent adverse events were generally mild and the most frequent were fatigue, injection site reactions, diarrhea, decreased appetite and nausea. There were no treatment-related deaths. Potential drug-related dose limiting toxicities included decreased appetite, congestive cardiac failure, hypertension, fatigue, increased conjugated bilirubin and increased gamma glutamyltransferase. One AML patient achieved complete remission after withdrawal from study. Eleven AML patients experienced SD. For AML, the median OS was 72.0 days. For MDS, two patients experienced SD. Further development of RO as monotherapy was discontinued due to lack of efficacy, but combinations with other agents are under consideration. The possibility of employing computational approaches like nano-QSAR or nano-read-across to predict nanomaterial hazard is attractive from both a financial, and most importantly, where in vivo tests are required, ethical perspective. In the present work, we have employed advanced Machine Learning techniques, including stacked model ensembles, to create nano-QSAR tools for modeling the toxicity of metallic and metal oxide nanomaterials, both coated and uncoated and with a variety of different core compositions, tested at different dosage concentrations on embryonic zebrafish. Using both computed and experimental descriptors, we have identified a set of properties most relevant for the assessment of nanomaterial toxicity and successfully correlated these properties with the associated biological responses observed in zebrafish. Our findings suggest that for the group of metal and metal oxide nanomaterials, the core chemical composition, concentration and properties dependent upon nanomaterial surface and medium composition (such as zeta potential and agglomerate size) are significant factors influencing toxicity, albeit the ranking of different variables is sensitive to the exact analysis method and data modeled. Our generalized nano-QSAR ensemble models provide a promising framework for anticipating the toxicity potential of new nanomaterials and may contribute to the transition out of the animal testing paradigm. However, future experimental studies are required to generate comparable, similarly high quality data, using consistent protocols, for well characterized nanomaterials, as per the dataset modeled herein. This would enable the predictive power of our promising ensemble modeling approaches to be robustly assessed on large, diverse and truly external datasets.Type 2 diabetes is a fast-growing worldwide epidemic. Despite the multiple therapies available to treat type 2 diabetes, the disease is not correctly managed in over half of patients, mainly due to non-compliance with prescribed treatment regimes. The development of analogues to the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) has resulted in the extension of its half-life and associated benefits. Further benefits in the use of peptide-based GLP-1 receptor agonists have been achieved by the use of controlled-release systems based on polymeric microparticles. In this review, we focus on commercially available formulations and others that remain in development, discussing the preparation methods and the relationship between in vitro and in vivo kinetic release behaviours.Introduction Although laparoscopic cotton swabs have been used in procedures such as blunt tissue dissection and elevation of organs, fluid maceration is widely known to reduce their original performance. Thus, we developed an anti-maceration laparoscopic surgical cotton swab that is expected to solve this problem by coating the cotton swab with water-resistant resin. This study aimed to determine whether anti-maceration cotton swabs perform better than conventional products. Material and methods Fine surface shape analysis of cotton swabs was performed using microfocus X-ray computed tomography, and changes due to fluid absorption of the anti-maceration cotton swabs and pre-existing products were quantitatively compared. As indices, the degree of expansion by maceration and SMD (surface roughness index of the fiber industry showing the size of irregularities on the surface) were evaluated. Results The degree of expansion was lower in anti-maceration swabs than in conventional products. Maceration reduced SMD in existing products, whereas the SMD in anti-maceration cotton swabs did not change. Conclusions Anti-maceration cotton swabs have a superior performance over conventional products.

The primary objective of this study was to determine the overall parental satisfaction with retro-transfers from a level 3 to a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The secondary objectives were to explore factors that caused parental satisfaction associated with retro-transfer and investigate the factors that could be modified to improve the retro-transfer process.

This is a retrospective cross-sectional study. Questionnaires were mailed to all parents of infants transferred from level 3 to level 2 NICUs from 2016 to 2017. Independent samples t-tests, Spearman’s rank correlations, and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with parental retro-transfer satisfaction.

Our response rate was 39.1% (

= 140). Of all parents, 64.29% parents were extremely satisfied with the overall retro-transfer process. selleck kinase inhibitor In our bivariate analyses, multiple factors were found to be strongly associated with parental retro-transfer satisfaction, including parental level of education, the amount of notice and rationale given for the retro-transfer and the level of parental communication and engagement with their infant’s healthcare team before and after transfer.
