We describe the prevalence and correlates of nonuse of preferred contraceptive method among women 18-44 years of age in Ohio using contraception.
The population-representative Ohio Survey of Women had 2529 participants in 2018-2019, with a response rate of 33.5%. We examined prevalence of preferred method nonuse, reasons for nonuse, and satisfaction with current method among current contraception users (n=1390). We evaluated associations between demographic and healthcare factors and preferred method nonuse.
About 25% of women reported not using their preferred contraceptive method. The most common barrier to obtaining preferred method was affordability (13%). Those not using their preferred method identified long-acting methods (49%), oral contraception (33%), or condoms (21%) as their preferred methods. The proportion using their preferred method was highest among intrauterine device (IUD) users (86%) and lowest among emergency contraception users (64%). About 16% of women using permanent contraceptioethod use. Removal of cost barriers and improvement in contraceptive counseling strategies may increase access to preferred contraceptive methods.

To measure pain and anxiety during first trimester uterine aspiration when using auricular acupressure or acupuncture as an adjunct to usual care.
This randomized, double-blinded, three-arm trial enrolled patients undergoing an aspiration procedure for an induced abortion, a miscarriage, or other abnormal intrauterine pregnancy. Trial participants received auricular acupressure, auricular acupuncture, or placebo immediately prior to their procedures. The study began with 111 randomization, but later overenrolled into the acupressure group after providing retraining for greater fidelity to that intervention. All participants received ibuprofen and a paracervical block. Participants reported pain and anxiety levels via visual analog scores (0-100). Our analysis compared pain scores of those receiving acupressure versus placebo, and those receiving acupuncture versus placebo.

We conducted this study to examine barriers to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) that persist in the context of a large-scale LARC program, Delaware Contraceptive Access Now (Del-CAN), that has actively endeavored to remove such barriers.

We found that, even in the midst of Del-CAN’s efforts, meso and macro-level contexts, including provider-patient communication and clinic/practice structures, reinforced LARC barriers related to knowledge, access, and side effects.
The multi-level contexts and nuances we illuminate in our study currently fall outside the purview of well-intentioned, large-scale initiatives such as Del-CAN, that attempt to address and ameliorate oft-researched barriers. Thus, these barriers persist within provider-patient interactions and clinic/practice policies and structures.

We compared the Xpert® Xpress SARS-CoV-2 (Cepheid) and Vivalytic VRI Panel (Schnelltest COVID-19) (Bosch) point-of-care tests with four high-throughput assays and one LDT, the cobas® SARS-CoV-2 test (Roche), the Allplex™ 2019-nCoV Assay (Seegene), the SARS-CoV-2 AMP (Abbott) Kit, the RealStar® SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Kit 1.0 (altona) as well as an assay using a SARS-CoV-2 RdRP gene specific primer and probe set. Samples from patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, samples from the first and second SARS-CoV-2-PCR External Quality Assessment (EQA) (INSTAND e.V.) and a 10-fold serial dilution of a SARS-CoV-2 cell culture (SARS-CoV-2 Frankfurt 1) supernatant were examined.
