Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress were analyzed using the 21-item version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale. Symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder were analyzed using the Impact of Event Scale. Symptomatic scores of anxiety, depression, and stress were observed in 20% to 30% of respondents. Symptomatic scores indicating psychological stress were found in 47.5% of respondents. Similar to the findings of other multiple studies, confinement has been found to have significant emotional impact in the Spanish population.

Socially anxious individuals often exhibit signs of anxiety that might elicit discomfort in others and negatively influence their interactions, due in part to emotional contagion. However, there is limited research examining the phenomenon of emotional contagion in social anxiety, which is the topic of the current study.

An experimental design was used in which undergraduate psychology students (

= 128) were assigned to either an experimental condition (watching a video of a socially anxious presenter) or a control condition (watching a video of a nonanxious presenter). Various measures were administered to assess social anxiety, emotional contagion, state anxiety, and related constructs.

After controlling for baseline anxiety levels, participants in the experimental condition reported significantly higher levels of anxiety during and immediately after watching the video compared to individuals in the control condition (multivariate analysis of covariance, analysis of variance). (Z)-4-Hydroxytamoxifen cost Similar results were found across both conditions in participants with higher levels of trait social anxiety and higher public speaking anxiety (moderated regression analyses).

The findings suggest that social anxiety may be emotionally contagious, and provides insight into the role that emotional contagion may play in the association between social anxiety and interpersonal functioning.

Hence, autophagy modulating agents have a great potential to be therapeutic agents for the autophagy-related diseases. Here we report that an anti-depressant drug sertraline (Sert) is an autophagy-inducing agent. Mechanistically, Sert potentially binds to and antagonizes the mitochondrial VDAC1 (voltage dependent anion channel 1), resulting in reduced cellular ATP (adenosine triphosphate) level, activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibition of its downstream, MTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase)-RPS6KB1 (ribosomal protein S6 kinase B1) signaling pathway. Cells lacking VDAC1 expression completely abrogate the modulatory effect of Sert on AMPK-MTOR pathway and autophagy-inducing activity. We further show that Sert suppresses tauopathy by promoting the autophagic 4/SERT1 solute carrier family 6 member 4; TFEB transcription factor EB; VDAC1 voltage dependent anion channel 1; WT wild-type; WM wortmannin. This opinion paper posits that there is a misalignment of how the theory of salutogenesis is defined by scholars and the way that salutogenesis is reflected in architectural practice. Many practitioners use this term to describe their work without a clear understanding of the social theory behind it. A background on the original theory, brief review of its subsequent development, and the importance of stress in determining health are explored. Antonovsky, originator of the salutogenesis theory, believed that health was represented by a spectrum ranging from disease to wellness and that stress and an individual’s ability to respond to it determined where they would be on that spectrum. His work indicates that one’s resources determined the impact of a stressor. The elements Antonovsky termed environmental generalized resistance resources (GRR) are considered because they are within the purview of design practitioners to influence. While Antonovsky’s work became focused on an aspect of salutogenesis he termed sense of coherence (SOC), he encouraged exploration of additional aspects. This article proposes an expanded definition of salutogenesis that includes five aspects of environmental GRR that can address or alleviate specific causes of stress-SOC, biophilia, relaxation response, self-empowerment, and prospect and refuge. A more specific language and a common, consistent way of understanding what makes an environment salutogenic emerges with examples of each described. A common language will bring consistency to design practice and make complex social theories more accessible for practitioners, leading to them being more rigorously and universally applied in design.Aim Quinic acid (QA) is a cyclic polyol exhibiting anticancer properties on several cancers. However, potential role of QA derivatives against glioblastoma is not well established. Methodology & results Sixteen novel QA derivatives and QA-16 encapsulated poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles (QA-16-NPs) were screened for their anti-glioblastoma effect using standard cell and molecular biology methods. Presence of a tertiary hydroxy and silylether groups in the lead compound were identified for the antitumor activity. QA-16 have 90% inhibition with the IC50 of 10.66 μM and 28.22 μM for LN229 and SNB19, respectively. The induction of apoptosis is faster with the increased fold change of caspase 3/7 and reactive oxygen species. Conclusion QA-16 and QA-16-NPs shows similar cytotoxicity effect, providing the opportunity to use QA-16 as a potential chemotherapeutic agent.
